Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)First off, I have shoulder length fine and color treated hair, so of course my observations will be somewhat different than those with very short hair. I used #7 for my fine hair because it provides more moisturizers than the system intended for "fine hair."
1. The shampoo.
This product was ok, but didn't lather all that well and because of this, you have to use a fair amount to get your scalp and hair clean. I ran out of the shampoo before I used half of the conditioner. (I use both daily). I need about double the amount I would normally use of any other shampoo brand/type. It is quite runny -- they could stand to concentrate it down to the normal shampoo consistency since they're charging quite a lot per ounce for watery contents.
2. The conditioner:
I guess if your hair is short or in very good virgin condition, the lightweight conditioners in this product will be sufficient. However, even for fine color treated hair it was too lightweight, and it is designed for color treated medium/coarse hair which is going to start out more dry. I didn't use the whole bottle since it left my hair very tangly compared to almost any drugstore conditioner. I understand that this conditioner is meant to be free of chemicals that can make hairloss worse, but if it does not function well as a conditioner, it fails in its primary purpose.
3. The scalp therapy liquid.
This stuff is very runny/watery, so you have to be careful not to let it drip onto your face, neck, or any other skin or it will leave red patches for a while. It's intended to bring blood to the surface of the skin/scalp -- which it does. However, this means it will do the same thing to any skin it comes in contact with. It left the roots of my hair feeling a bit gritty.
Overall effect: Nothing. After using the products for 45 days, my hair felt worse, the regrowth was no faster and seemed no healthier than before (virgin vs. old growth colored hair is easy to measure), and the system is far more expensive per ounce than products from the drugstore that work even better.
It works on the premise that you are not using any styling products or leave-in conditioners that will add back all those "bad" chemicals -- so it needs to be a REALLY good system to make up for it. It's simply not.
Another point -- if your hair is naturally fine and not falling out/thinning, NONE of the nioxin products will help you grow thicker hair, despite claims of hairdressers to the contrary.
