I purchased this touch-free soap dispenser to replace a push button dispenser in our main-floor bathroom. My wife is a daycare provider and we wanted a soap dispenser that would provide a sanitary means for the children in her care to wash their precious, little hands. As far as design and ease of use are concerned, this dispenser is a no-brainer. This is a wall mount style dispenser (not a countertop model) and it comes with an easy to install mounting bracket. The bracket can be installed with a silicone adhesive or with two small screws (everything is provided in the box). The provided instructions can be easily understood by anyone with a grade school education. I had the dispenser mounted to the wall above our bathroom sink (must be mounted at least 10 inches above any surface) in less than 10 minutes. Four AA batteries (not included) power this device and should last for several months of moderate use. The dispenser provides a simple pushbutton (hidden on the underside of the device), which allows you to toggle between small, medium, large, and continuous doses of soap. The small dose setting provides plenty of liquid handsoap for medium sized hands. The sensor detects your hand immediately when placed under the dispenser. In fact, the sensor is almost too sensitive. Moving items near the bottom of the dispenser tends to set it off. Our dispenser is mounted about 12 inches above the sink and yet my wife sets it off when cleaning the countertop of the sink. There is no on/off switch on the dispenser so my wife has to hold a tissue under the dispenser, to catch the soap that comes out when she is cleaning the sink top. If the kids sit anything on the counter, under the dispenser, an immediate drizzle of liquid soap is dispensed onto the item. This is to be expected from a touchless device like this, so people should be aware of this issue before considering the purchase of such a dispenser. However, we recently had a rather odd situation arise when our dispenser seemed to become agitated, as it decided to automatically pump several ounces of liquid soap onto the sink countertop for no reason at all. There was nobody in the room, and nothing was positioned under the dispenser. Maybe it was a reflection of light off the countertop that fooled the IR sensor, but the dispenser just started pumping dose after dose of soap all over the sink. One of our children happened to walk into the bathroom and noticed the soap all over the countertop. They came to get me and when I walked into the room the dispenser was still pumping soap over and over again. I had to pull the unit off from the wall and remove the batteries in order to get the darn thing to stop! I was afraid that the unit may be broken but decided to give it another try. After cleaning up all of the liquid soap (a rather slippery task may I add!), I refilled the dispenser and installed a fresh set of batteries. I slid the dispenser back on the wall bracket and it has been working just fine ever since. What initially caused this crazy situation I may never know. Will it ever happen again? I guess only time will tell. For now I am fairly happy with this device and hope that it does not act up again in the future. It is a perfect, low cost solution for providing a sanitary way to wash one's hands. I would give it 5 stars if only I was sure that it would not develop an attitude again and start oozing liquid soap all over our countertop. I will update this review if the problem returns. In the meantime I feel that I can recommend this device for the average homeowner that is looking for an economical touchless soap dispenser. Just make sure that you are aware of the extreme sensitivity of the IR sensor, and are willing to use precautionary methods when cleaning or placing items near the dispenser. And remember, there is no on/off switch on this device so you will need to exercise extreme caution when removing the unit from the wall mount bracket and/or when refilling it. The inclusion of an on/off switch and even a sensitivity adjuster would be my recommendations to the manufacturer for future model releases. =o)
