Right on the outside of this bottle, Sauve states that this shampoo "invigorates" as well as Aveda Rosemary Mint Shampoo. I mean... I guess the shampoos are similar, in the way hamburger is similar to steak.
I knew when my husband purchased this, there was no way it would be as good. I mean, it's $2 for 14.5oz. I pay $10 for an 8.5oz bottle of Aveda at the salon I live above. Expensive shampoos are expensive for a reason. The detergent levels are higher in good shampoo. They really do clean your hair better. Also, the extracts are more pure and concentrated. There's a REASON they cost more.
As soon as I squeezed the shampoo from the bottle, I realized the consistency was obviously not even close to Aveda. It was about half as thick. I instantly squeezed too much from the over-sized hole in the bottle and before I knew it, a glob slipped right through my fingers and splatted on the shower floor. Okay... well, I won't do that again...
Once I got this in my hair, I wasn't noticing the rosemary mint scent which you can get a whiff of if you smell the bottle. It smelled more like aloe. I checked the bottle, yes this is an ingredient. As I continued to later, I smelled only the aloe scent. As far as the "invigoration" I was supposed to be feeling... well, there was no peppermint tingle... or rosemary aromatherapy. I had to really work it up to a later and once I did, I started noticing, with horror, that the shampoo was actually stripping out my hair color. I colored my hair black about two months ago... but there was the blue-grayish later running out of my hair, as if I'd just colored it two days ago and there was still some on my scalp. Awesome. For the record, while using Aveda Rosemary Mint the two months prior, this was not an issue.
After a blow dry, I can say my hair does feel clean and soft... it is, after all, shampoo. There is no lingering scent of rosemary or mint to speak of... and I'm now in a bit of fear for my color...
My bottom line is that I suppose it's worth $2 or $2.50 or whatever, but it in no way compares to Aveda. Not even close. After my experience, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with color treated hair or to someone looking for an "invigorating" minty shower "experience"...
If you're used to using $3 or less shampoos, I assume this holds up fine to that standard. I, however, have a lot of hair and shampoo is something I feel the need to splurge a bit on for better results.
