I am African-American and I grew up with kinky hair. After the birth of my first child my hair texture changed from kinky to curly. I no longer have to use a chemical relaxer to straighten my hair and no longer need hair products formulated for relaxed hair.
My quest began to find products that work on my new texture, would not damage my hair color, and were affordable. After a lot of searching I found Hamadi, a product line that fit my first two criteria (great on my texture, kind to my color) but cost a lot of money. So my goal then became to find a cheaper line without sacrificing quality.
I found Garnier Fructis line and now use Garnier Fructis Fortifying Shampoo For Color Treated or Permed Hair, Fortifying Cream Conditioner For Color Treated or Permed Hair and finish with Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Leave-In-Conditioner. These replaced my Hamadi products (see my reviews of Hamadi products for more information).
Fortifying Shampoo, For Color Treated/Permed Hair
The shampoo gently cleanses and I find that my hair is clean but not stripped and it is kind to my color. There is no sacrifice of quality and it actually is kinder to my hair texture than the more expensive shampoo I used. Although that shampoo was kind to my color over time it stripped my hair and made it frizzy and I had to add a second conditioner to my routine. This cleanses well and does not hurt my hair or color and because of the cost if I need to shampoo my hair more than once I don't have to worry about the cost.
I can see no difference in quality between the two products the Garnier line works just as well as the more expensive line I used and the shampoo actually works better. The only noticeable differences are color of the product, fragrance, and packaging. One nice thing about the packaging if you shampoo and condition in the shower is the shampoo opens on top and the conditioner on the bottom so if you can't open your eyes you can still tell which product you are using.
The most dramatic difference is price. The most expensive price I have seen for a family size product, 25.4 oz, of shampoo is $7.99; on Amazon and depending on the store you can find it cheaper. For shampoo that works out to about $.31 per oz vs. $3.50 per oz of the line I used previously.
I love these products because they work like expensive products and are affordable. It is has been hard for me to find quality products, that work well on my hair texture, and are also reasonably priced. I have finally hit the jackpot.
