(More customer reviews)After relocating to SoCal and LA water, my hair took a decidedly Hermione turn. This is why Brazilian Blowouts are all the rage around here. I went into detox (see regimen suggested in The Truth About Beauty: Transform Your Looks And Your Life From The Inside Out) and I brought out the big guns-- Amazon's highest rated products for the dry and frizzies. Fekkai turned my hair to hay and Pureology did nothing to revitalize it while gagging me with noxious "fragrance." I'd been Amazon stalking Lush solid shampoo line, but what with the price (+exorbitant S&H), inevitably abandoned my cart.
One fine day, I stumbled upon a One display at a retail branch of the purveyor listed (literally stumbled upon, we're talking shin-level in the boutiquey Bert's Bees, el cheapo spa gifts section). I've since happily exhausted my first bar and returned to nab the last Biscuit in stock as a replacement. Would that there had been another to provision my gym bag.
Pros:
*guilt-free packaging: everything is recyclable, plus you're not paying to ship that extra water
*great smelling: granted, smell is idiosyncratic, but I've gotten lots of compliments for the subtle honeysuckle-esque scent... sort of how I'd imagine Winnie the Pooh smelling. Plus it smells just as delicious on the bf. I have spared the dog... for now...
*space saver: this isn't one of those lame bottles you have to turn upside down and balance precariously on the side of the tub while you eke out the last bit of product because you paid $30+ for it.
*fun, effective novelty: lathers up remarkably well.
Cons:
*The storage tin: it's impossible to open when you're slippery, you get an inevitable bright yellow ambrosial smelling sticky pool under the drainage vents, and the bar never fully dries enough to reconstitute so half way through its life, you're dipping into a muddy mess for shampoo. This is why your bar won't last 3x as long as normal shampoo. Easy fix-- we saved the plastic mesh netting bag from another product and the One bar just hangs in there. It lathers just as well through the mesh and dries neatly and more thoroughly.
*Sodium Lauryl Sulfate: One still has this detergent (like almost every 'poo), which can have a drying effect on your hair and skin. The upside is that the bar form gets the application as close to your greasy roots as possible, which should help save you from over-drying the ends.
*The sister solid conditioner: totally ineffective. I can't even repurpose it to stand in for shaving cream. QQ. I'm swapping it out for Trader Joe's liquid conditoner Tea Tree Tingle today. If that disappoints, it's back to good old Pantene Pro-V (which also comes in godsend travel/gym bag sizes).
